Donshika Deyon - Artistic Director
Donshika Deyon is the Artistic Director of 6th Position Dance Company. Her mission is to heighten the awareness of Joy and Freedom through the education of dance and performance. This mission is promoted through a variety of School Programs, Summer Camps, Workshops, and Community Outreach. Her formal background includes a B.S. in Urban Education from The University of Houston-Downtown, Science Instruction & Curriculum Writing in Aldine ISD and Dance Instructor for Hoffman Middle School.
She has trained in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, and Modern dance since age twelve (12) and continues her training with Finis Jhung at the Alvin Ailey Extension Workshops and various schools of dance. Since 2003, she has been an independent teacher and choreographer. She directs her own dance company in Houston, Texas. Her “Let’s Dance,” Program for kids has been implemented in twenty (20) local private schools offering classes with a focus on young dancers, ages 3-11.
The Let’s Dance Program includes Jazz, Ballet, Hip Hop and Creative Movement training. Extending her programs beyond the school year, she began the “Let’s Dance and Cheer Summer Camp,” in 2010 with a goal to cultivate and change the Dance Experience for children. Her most outstanding experience includes The Ministers of Praise at St. John’s UMC Downtown, where she currently leads the Dance Ministry and has been participating as a member since 2000.
